I am a designer, photographer, writer and educator based in New York City. I have an MFA from Yale School of Art, where I studied with design legend Paul Rand. I’m the author of Playing with Color: 50 Graphic Experiments for Exploring Color Design Principles.

I’ve been a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts since 2002, where I teach first and second year courses the BFA Design program, including two-dimensional design & color theory, graphic design and fundamentals of typography. I also teach online courses and in-person workshops in SVA’s Continuing Education program. In addition to teaching at SVA, I offer online color theory courses on the Domestika and CreativeLive websites.

I maintain a design practice focused on personal projects, professional consultation and creative work for companies and non-profit organizations. I live with my partner Alicia and pug Sheldon in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
